Mutu drops Chelsea appeal

Adrian Mutu has dropped his claim for unfair dismissal against Chelsea.

After signing for Serie A giants Juventus, Adrian Mutu has dropped his claim for unfair dismissal against Chelsea.

The disgraced forward was due to have his case heard by the Premier League on Thursday, although reports claim that Mutu has now withdrawn his appeal.

The Romanian international was given a chance to resurrect his career by the Turin side as he signed a five-year deal, although had to be registered with Livorno to bypass the fact that Juve have filled their quota of non-EU players this season.

However the 26-year-old will not be able to make his return to Serie A immediately as the seven-month ban imposed by The Football Association for testing positive for cocaine will stand, and Chelsea will push for compensation of some kind.

Although the London giants terminated Mutu's contract, they will reportedly argue that his drug abuse breached the terms of his deal and that the striker effectively annulled his own contract.

Reports suggest that Chelsea may even look to take the case to a civil court in an attempt to recoup some of the £13.8 million they paid to Parma in August 2003 for his services.
