Abidal to decide after World Cup

French international defender Eric Abidal looks set to leave Lyon after the World Cup.

French international defender Eric Abidal looks set to leave Lyon once the World Cup is over.

The 27-year-old left back is the only Stade Gerland player not to have completed negotiations and bettered his deal with the French champions.

He was named in the UNFP, the French Union of Professional footballers, team of the season but has been linked with a move to one of Europe's top clubs.

Real Madrid are looking to replace their ageing left back Roberto Carlos, while Chelsea could lose William Gallas to Milan.

The left side of defence has been an issue for Jose Mourinho since he took over at Stamford Bridge, and Abidal could provide the solution.

But the Frenchman has insisted he will focus solely on the World Cup until France are knocked out of the tournament.

Les Bleus begin their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 13, and the Lyon man will be hoping that he can showcase his talents by wrestling a starting place from his compatriot Gallas.

Former Arsenal striker Sylvain Wiltord has been offered a two-year extension to his deal with Gerard Houllier.

Meanwhile youngsters Niko Kranjcar from Hajduk Split and Yohann Gourcuff from Rennes have been linked with a move to the Stade Gerland, along with Portuguese international Pauleta.
