FRIEDEL TO GET ENERGIE BOOST?

LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been linked with a move to German Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus to resurrect his ailing career.

The giant American has been left out in the cold at Liverpool since the arrival of Sander Westerveld and after being part of the olympic squad who came fourth in Sydney, he cannot now enter the country because he has no work permit.

Liverpool's application for a new permit was rejected by the Department of Employment so the Anfield giants would like to offload Friedel as soon as possible.

The 29-year-old was also recently linked with a move to Blackburn Rovers to join Greame Souness as part of his push for promotion.

Cottbus are currently languishing at the bottom of the Bundesliga and have goalkeeper Tomas Kohler out because of a knee operation so they may much more desperate to sign the keeper quickly.

The departure of Friedel would also enable Liverpool to bring in another non-EU player, most likely the expected arrival of Croatian Igor Biscan from Dynamo Zagreb.
