Diarra wants to stay put

Alou Diarra is keen to turn his back on a possible return to parent club Liverpool.

Alou Diarra is keen to turn his back on a possible return to parent club Liverpool.

The Lens midfielder has had a storming season in Ligue 1 and is reluctant to answer any call back to Merseyside from coach Rafa Benitez.

The Spanish boss is understood to have been impressed with the Sang et Or skipper's displays and is pondering having him in the Reds squad next season.

With the World Cup finals on the horizon, the France international is not willing to jeopardise his chances of playing in the planet's biggest football tournament even though it is Liverpool who have the final say as he is under contract for another two years.

"I want to stay at Lens at least one more season," Diarra reiterated.

"I need stability."

Benitez's focus at the moment is obviously on the UEFA Champions League final date with Milan in Istanbul but he will consider Diarra's future at the end of the campaign.
