Sissoko boost for Reds

Mohamed Sissoko will be available for Saturday's Merseyside derby at Everton.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been handed a timely boost ahead of this weekend's Merseyside derby with the news that Mohamed Sissoko is fit to play after returning to training.

Sissoko picked up a knee injury during Liverpool's UEFA Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa in Kiev in August.

The big African has been a real powerhouse in the middle of the park for Benitez since his arrival from Valencia, and his injury was a big blow for The Reds.

However, Benitez has revealed that Sissoko is now back in full training and is available to return to action at Goodison Park against old rivals Everton on Saturday - a game which is live on Prem Plus.

Sissoko could well be in contention to start at Goodison with Benitez having most of his squad away on international duty during the week.

Liverpool have also been without Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise with ankle injuries, and they will need longer to prove their fitness ahead of the derby.

"Momo is fit and has been training normally at Melwood," said Benitez.

"It's more difficult to tell with John or Carra and we won't know until Thursday if they have a chance."

Benitez will be keeping his fingers crossed until the weekend that none of his international stars come back with injuries.

The Spanish boss says his players will only return on Thursday afternoon and, with the big game on at Saturday lunchtime, there is precious little time to prepare.

"The players will be back with us tomorrow but there's no time really to do what we'd like before the derby," added Benitez.

"All we can do is make sure they have recovered from their international matches.

"The important thing is they all come back fit and without problems. That's our hope."
