Frey admits Arsenal contact

SEBASTIEN FREY claims he was one of the keepers considered by Arsene Wenger before the Arsenal boss moved for Brazilian international Marcos.

Palmeiras number one Marcos is holding talks with The Gunners this week and, although Wenger has stressed that a deal is not yet done, the 29-year-old has clearly emerged as the Frenchman's top target.

Much will depend on talks scheduled to take place on Friday, but Arsenal clearly have other irons in the fire if things do not run smoothly with Marcos.

One of the names in the frame has emerged as Parma's French shot-stopper Frey, whose agent Vincenzo Morabito has already revealed the Premiership champions are keen on his client.

"I've played in Italy for five seasons now," Frey told Bloomberg News. "I've acquired a good deal of experience here.

"The idea of going to play abroad doesn't look disagreeable to me at all.

"Even very recently, I have been contacted by two or three English teams, one of which was Arsenal, and I have a few offers from Spain too.

"English football is very good at the moment, and Spanish football has a lot of fantasy, and there is less stress than here.

"Both alternatives appeal."

Frey admitted he would consider offers in the summer, although Arsenal may already have signed Marcos by then.

"I don't want to talk about it too much now because I want to concentrate on Parma until June," he added.

"Then we'll see.

"I will evaluate the offers at the end of the season because I have already received very interesting proposals."
