Aliadiere injury woe

Jeremie Aliadiere may not figure for Arsenal this term after undergoing surgery

Jeremie Aliadiere may not figure for Arsenal this term after undergoing surgery on his knee injury.

The French striker picked up the injury when coming on as a second half substitute in Arsenal's Community Shield win over Manchester United in August.

Wenger was initially hopeful that his compatriot would only be out for a matter of weeks, but scans revealed serious damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

A specialist informed the club that the young striker would require surgery to correct the problem and Wenger has confirmed that the 21-year-old may not return this season.

"Jeremie had surgery so we are without him until March or April," confirmed Wenger.

The severity of the injury may result in Arsenal opting to wrap him in cotton wool for the remainder of the season in order not to cause further damage.

The news is better on England defender Sol Campbell, with Wenger expecting the towering stopper to return from his Achilles injury in around a fortnight.

"Sol is back in training, " added Wenger on the club's website. "He will be ready to play a game in two weeks' time."
