Reyes makes Henry plea

Jose Antonio Reyes has urged Thierry Henry to stay at Arsenal and sign a new contract.

Jose Antonio Reyes has urged Arsenal and Thierry Henry to come to an agreement over a new contract.

Henry's present deal expires in 2007 but the club captain has decided to put off talks regarding an extension until the end of the season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not worried by the situation and respects Henry's stance to delay negotiations.

But Henry's decision has sparked talk that Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid will chance their arm with a bid next summer.

Reyes is aware of the rumours but the exciting attacker is hoping that Henry will commit himself to the Highbury club.

"Thierry Henry's future has also been discussed in the press and I hope he signs a new contract," Reyes told the Daily Star.

"If the club decides to reward Thierry with a huge new deal then I am fully behind that."

Reyes, himself, was linked with a move to Real Madrid last season before signing a bumper new contract with The Gunners over the summer.

He admits he was unsettled by his situation last term but is now confident that all his problems have been ironed out.

"Thankfully all the Real Madrid rumours are a thing of the past and I can now focus on Arsenal," continued Reyes.

"Last season wasn't very nice for me and I am keen there will be no repeat.

"I signed a new contract with Arsenal this summer and I did so because I believed in this project."
