Flamini in Blues link

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has reportedly set his sights on Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini.

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has reportedly set his sights on Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini.

The Frenchman announced towards the end of the season that he was ready to leave Arsenal, and he is set to buy out the rest of his contract in order to escape the club.

Flamini is currently assessing his options and is expected to make a decision on his future in the next couple of weeks.

"Mathieu is in talks with several clubs and will soon be making his decision," legal adviser Alexandra Missirli confirmed in The Sun.

One of Flamini's options is understood to be Birmingham, who have been looking to strengthen since securing their return to the Premier League.

Bruce has a history of signing players from Arsenal, having taken Nicklas Bendtner on loan last season and also buying Sebastian Larsson and Fabrice Muamba.

Birmingham have also been linked Celta Vigo winger Daniel De Ridder, who impressed for Holland during the recent European Under 21 Championship.

Speculation suggests he is keen to leave Spain following Celta's relegation from La Liga, and Bruce is reportedly lining up a £2.5million deal.
