Lyon realistic on Reyes

Jean-Michel Aulas admits Lyon are unlikely to win the chase for Jose Antonio Reyes.

Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted that Lyon are unlikely to win the chase for Jose Antonio Reyes.

The Arsenal forward, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, attracted the attention of several clubs after making it clear he did not wish to return to London.

He is now expected to join Atletico Madrid and Aulas accepts that Lyon should start focusing on other alternatives.

"We were supposed to meet Reyes on Monday in Seville, but his prime objective is to join a Spanish club," said the Lyon president.

"We have a big handicap and we are trying to surmount it. We still have a little chance, but we have other irons in the fire."

Lyon are determined to bring another striker to Stade Gerland but Aulas has revealed that there is still a chance of Sylvain Wiltord staying at the club.

A deal was agreed for Wiltord to join Rennes last week but Aulas claims his future is still uncertain.

"As far as Sylvain Wiltord is concerned he has not yet decided," he explained.

"If he leaves, then he is free to do so. If he does not, he will be our first signing.

"It's his decision. At Rennes, he would have two more years on his contract with a two-year option and it would be astonishing if he did not take it but if he doesn't, so much the worse for him."
