DOUBLE LINK FOR HUGHES

VETERAN Everton striker and Wales boss Mark Hughes has been linked with two moves away from Goodison Park, with talk suggesting that he may move to Cardiff as manager, although a possible move to bolster Blackburn's strikeforce seems unlikely.

Cardiff removed Bobby Gould as manager on Monday, placing Alan Cork in charge and moving the former Wales boss 'upstairs', but speculation claims that owner Sam Hammam will look to replace him with a Welshman.

Reports now say that Hughes could hang up his boots and take the job in his native country, meaning that he would combine the Welsh national team job with his Cardiff duties.

Blackburn Rovers manager Graeme Souness, meanwhile, is stepping up his search for a striker, and the 36-year-old emerged as a possible target for the Ewood Park club.

Souness admitted: "We are looking and we might be able to get somebody in on loan."

However, despite the fact that the two clubs are believed to have held talks over a possible transfer - although Egil Ostenstad has also been mentioned as part of a possible swap deal - Souness will not be making a move for the former Manchester United star.
