Blades not selling

Sheffield United have not received an offer from Everton for Michael Tonge.

Sheffield United have confirmed they have received no bid from Premiership side Everton for Michael Tonge.

The Toffees are thought to have tabled a £750,000 bid for the talented England Under-21 international, but The Blades have stated that no offers have been made for their top players.

Neil Warnock's side currently occupy one of the Championship play-off places and the South Yorkshire outfit have made it clear that players like Tonge, Phil Jagielka and Alan Quinn are essential to their promotion hopes this season.

"Our policy is to improve our playing staff rather than weaken it," Blades vice-chairman Terry Robinson told the Sheffield Star.

"The [share] issue consolidated the progress we have made off the pitch recently and one of the main points of that was to make sure we don't have to sell any of our best players.

"They are central to everything we are trying to achieve here and we want to keep them.

"Of course, we expect other people to admire them, they're playing well and, especially at this time of year, there will always be talk.

"But, as we've said in the past, that doesn't mean they're going."

Meanwhile, The Blades have handed a trial to former Bradford City goalkeeper Jon Worsnop.

The 21-year-old played in the club's reserves last week, when they played Bradford's reserves at Valley Parade.
