Beattie sets goal target

James Beattie insists he still has a 20-goal target this season.

James Beattie insists he still has a 20-goal target this season.

Beattie bagged the winner on Sunday against Middlesbrough - his third goal of the season.

Having finally overcome a string of injuries, Beattie is now hoping to confirm himself as one of The Premiership's most feared strikers once again.

"I think that you should always set yourself targets," Beattie told Sky Sports News.

"At the beginning of the season, the benchmark is maybe 15. But I've took it up a notch and I have got to aim for 20 goals a season, if you're a striker that's the aim."

Beattie still has hopes of playing for England.

"It is very difficult for me to say that I have not missed it [international duty] because I have," he said.

"I have been injured and have been looking at it from the outside.

"But hopefully if I keep my head down and play well for Everton the goals will keep coming and get Everton up the table, then if an England call comes again it will be a tremendous bonus.

"There is always time and I haven't given up hope [of a call-up].

"I'm pretty confident in myself. All I can do is keep trying."
