Boro close on Gera deal

Hungarian sources claim Middlesbrough have struck a deal for Zoltan Gera.

Hungarian sources claim Middlesbrough have struck a deal with West Bromwich Albion for Zoltan Gera.

The 27-year-old is being allowed to leave The Hawthorns as Tony Mowbray looks to put his own imprint on his squad.

A player-exchange deal possibly involving Brad Jones and Malcolm Christie has been mooted, but it is claimed Boro's offer is a straight £3million - which meets Albion's value of the player.

While Boro look to press ahead with their move - Everton and Fulham are believed to have joined Aston Villa and Wigan in showing an interest, so the North East club could have to move quickly to secure his signature.

Gera himself is growing increasingly excited about the prospect of a move back to the Premiership - where he performed admirably for Albion, before the relegation last season.

"I feel that the atmosphere is hot around me nowadays," Gera told Nemzeti Sport.

"If it's true that all these clubs would like to get me then it's a huge honour for me, but I admit that I'm proud to be a WBA player too.

"I've stressed many times: I've a contract, so it's not me who can decide about my future, my job is to play as well as I'm able to."
