JAASKELAINEN SHOCKER SPARKS KEEPER HUNT

NEWS that Jussi Jaaskelainen is out for the season has started a frantic search for goalkeeping cover by Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce.

Jaaskelainen injured his cruciate ligaments nine minutes into Bolton's clash with Tranmere after landing awkwardly, and had to be replaced by number two Steve Banks.

However, normal third choice Matt Glennon is currently on a season's loan with Carlisle, leaving Allardyce with no cover for Banks, sparking a desperate search for a goalkeeper.

Speculation has immediately linked Bolton with Bradford's unsettled star Matt Clarke, Blackburn's Alan Kelly and a return for old-boy Keith Branagan - who moved on a free transfer to Ipswich in the summer.

Banks is confident that he can keep Bolton's promotion push on course, saying: "I've been trying to push Jussi as much as I can and the gaffer has given me a couple of cup games but I've had to just bide my time and wait.

"Obviously this is not the best of ways to get into the side - a player getting injured.

"If I play, then I hope it will be my turn for a run in the team.

"I've already told the gaffer not to forget me and that I'll fight for my place. I'll do anything I can to get into the side."
