Soldevilla attracting English interest

TWO Premiership sides are chasing Espanyol's Antonio Soldevilla after the club considered putting the defender on the transfer market.

The 24-year-old defender recently penned a new deal with Javier Clemente's side but Catalunya's less illustrious side know they may need to offload some of their better players should they be relegated from La Liga.

The club currently languish in 16th place and Bolton Wanderers recently sent scouts to spy on Soldevilla during the club's 0-0 draw with Celta Vigo at Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic last Sunday.

Glenn Hoddle, manager of North London giants Tottenham Hotspur, is also keen to have the promising stopper watched as he looks to add competition for places at the back of what has looked a less than steady defence this term.

Another defender set to depart the club is Alberto Lopo.

The centre back, who has come through the Espanyol ranks, had been a target for Lazio in the past and is also said to be attracting the interest of several Premiership clubs too.

Clemente may be willing to let the 23-year-old leave along with Soldevilla as he pins his hopes on landing the experienced Argentine international Mauricio Pochettino, who is available on a free from French giants Paris Saint Germain.
