Cox in Royals return

Reading midfielder Simon Cox has cut short a loan period at Brentford.

Reading midfielder Simon Cox has returned to the club after having a loan spell at Brentford cut short through injury.

The 19-year-old joined the League One outfit in a one-month loan switch but a fractured fibula has led to his return to The Madejski Stadium.

News of Cox's injury will be a bitter blow for Bees boss Leroy Rosenior, as he had impressed in the five appearances made prior to his unfortunate break.

"I am absolutely gutted for Simon," said Rosenior to the club's official website.

"He has got better and better for us and I thought last night he was magnificent.

"We will miss him both on and off the field. Needless to say we shall monitor his progress and will look forward to seeing him back in action as soon as possible."

To compound Rosenior's woe, Adam Griffiths finished Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Millwall nursing a broken nose.

"Adam is waiting to be assessed by a consultant to determine the extent of his injury. He too will be sorely missed."
