Winger signs on for Reading

John Oster has signed a new deal at Reading that ties him to the club until 2008.

John Oster has signed a contract extension at Reading that ties him to the club until 2008.

The Welsh international has not been one of the more prominent members of Steve Coppell's side in recent months but has convinced the Premiership new-boys of his worth all the same.

Oster had signed a new deal in the summer following Reading's promotion, and after making 17 appearances so far this season has now committed to the club for a further 12 months.

"It's great to sign for another year. I feel I've been playing well and I'm looking forward to continuing to challenge for a place," Oster told the club's official website.

"The team is doing really well at the moment and this is a good club to be at, but we will all take the mentality of the manager and keep our feet firmly on the ground."

Reading have tied a number of players down to new deals in recent months including club captain Graeme Murty and top scorer Kevin Doyle, although midfielder Steve Sidwell is the glaring omission in that list.

After Oster's decision to pen a new deal, director of football Nick Hammond expressed the club's pleasure with the former Everton man's work this term.

"John has performed very well every time he's been called upon this season," said Hammond.

"He's happy here and the environment we have at this football club is clearly allowing him to get the best out of himself."
