Pompey look at Beda

PORTSMOUTH have taken Bordeaux defender Mathieu Beda on trial.

Fratton Park boss Harry Redknapp is keen to strengthen his defence having seen his squad decimated by injuries.

21-year-old Beda will spend the next days on the South Coast, training with the Portsmouth first-team hoping to win a permanent move to the club.

Should the former Cannes ace impress on trial Redknapp could take the player on loan for the rest of the season with the view to a long-term deal.

Meanwhile, Bordeaux defender Jerome Bonnissel, who is on trial at Rangers, has revealed he has been impressed by what he has seen at the Glasgow outfit.

The Frenchman has joined Rangers on their winter training trip to Dubai in the hope of winning a deal at Ibrox.

Rangers could face competition for the left back's signature as Bonnissel admitted that another club are interested in his services.

"I do have another option but, right now, I don't want to think about that," said Bonnissel. "I am very happy to go to Dubai so I can show what I can do.

"I've been shown the training ground and the stadium and I've been very impressed."
