Pearson pulls out for Scots

Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson has been forced to pull out of the Scotland squad for this week's friendly with Romania.

Pearson picked up a leg injury in last weekend's SPL win over Rangers and has been forced to withdraw from Berti Vogts' squad.

Vogts has called up Portsmouth midfielder Richard Hughes as a replacement for Pearson.

The German has seen his original squad decimated by a number of withdrawals with eight players pulling out.

A statement on the SFA's official website said: "Richard Hughes of Portsmouth became the latest new recruit to the Scotland squad today, brought in as further withdrawals left Berti Vogts' original selection almost unrecognisable.

"The left midfielder, who was a regular Under-21 cap, has broken into the Portsmouth team and scored a memorable cup goal against Liverpool recently.

"From the original Scotland squad, eight players are now missing, with Robert Douglas, Jackie McNamara, Andy Webster, Darren Fletcher, Gary Naysmith, Stephen Pearson, Paul Gallagher and Kevin Kyle all unable to join their team-mates."
