Bluebirds sign O'Neil

Cardiff City have completed their second signing in the space of a week.

Cardiff City have completed their second signing in the space of a week after capturing Portsmouth's Gary O'Neil on loan.

The struggling Bluebirds have signed Pompey's England Under-21 midfielder on a three-month loan deal, hot on the heels of Darren Williams' arrival.

Cardiff, who thrashed MK Dons in midweek, have struggled in The Championship this term claiming just five points from their opening nine games.

With O'Neil well down the pecking order, Cardiff were keen to bring in the star to bolster their numbers and build up the midfielder's match fitness.

O'Neil, who scored twice in Pompey's 6-1 win over Leeds last season, is now available for manager Lennie Lawrence to face Wolves this weekend.

Cardiff beat off competition from Championship rivals Gillingham, who were also keen to land O'Neil, for the youngster's services.
