Cardiff close on Robinson

CARDIFF CITY boss Lennie Lawrence has revealed that he is close to completing a deal to take former Charlton winger John Robinson to Ninian Park.

The Welsh international was released by Charlton at the end of last term, and is still attempting to find himself a new club.

However, it seems that the newly-promoted Bluebirds are ready to offer the 31-year-old the opportunity to play in the First Division next season.

"I have spoken to John and the deal is perhaps only a couple of days away from being completed," said Lawrence.

However, the former Charlton and Grimsby boss admitted Cardiff's chances of luring Gary Doherty from Tottenham Hotspur were not as strong, but insisted negotiations were still ongoing.

"Talks with Gary Doherty are at a less advanced stage and it's going to be a bit more complicated because there will be a fee involved."
