Palace reject Spurs deal talk

Crystal Palace deny that Wayne Routledge has agreed a deal with Spurs.

Crystal Palace have moved to deny speculation that young star Wayne Routledge has agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports had suggested that the 20-year-old, who has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough Premiership season despite The Eagles being relegated, had agreed to move to White Hart Lane when his contract expires this summer.

Routledge has been the subject of sustained speculation ever since rejecting an improved deal from Iain Dowie's side, and being of a tender age Palace could be expected to receive around £2 million in compensation from a tribunal if he decides to leave.

After turning down two offers from the North London side during the January transfer window, Palace may well have put themselves at the mercy of the three-man panel, although they are determined to hold on to one of their key performers.

Dowie recently voiced his hope that the tricky winger could yet remain at Selhurst Park, and the club have now moved to deny that any agreement is in place with Martin Jol's side.

"Crystal Palace Football Club would like to deny newspaper speculation that has reported the transfer of Wayne Routledge," a club statement read.

"Wayne was reported to have joined Tottenham Hotspur for £2 million in the media, but we can confirm that he has not joined the North London club and is still with Crystal Palace."
