Jol dismisses dual role talk

Martin Jol says he is not interested in becoming sporting director at Spurs.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol has dismissed suggestions that he is keen to combine his coaching role with that of sporting director, should Frank Arnesen head out of the club to Chelsea.

Arnesen is currently suspended from his role, as Chelsea continue negotiations with Spurs in a bid to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Many have praised Arnesen for his impact on the club since moving to North London from PSV Eindhoven last year.

It has been suggested that Jol is ready to take on both posts should Arnesen vacate his position, but the Dutchman says he has no intention of taking on a dual role.

"A lot of rubbish has been written about my wanting to do both roles at the club, if Frank does leave," Jol told the club's official website. "It's a nonsense - the reason I can make a difference at our club is because I can focus on coaching this squad and getting great results with them."

Jol says he has already spoken with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about finding a replacement for Arnesen.

"If Frank does leave us then the club will have to find a new sporting director. The chairman and I have spoken about this situation and it is something that he will take time with, to get the right person, someone who will work well with all of us.

"The structure works well so we would be mad to change it.

"Sometimes things like this make you stronger and even more determined to succeed. I know that will be the case with us."

Jol went on to praise keeper Paul Robinson following his assertion that he will soon be signing a new deal.

"Paul has demonstrated great loyalty to the club and is a prime example of the new spirit we have in this young squad," he added.
