Robinson eyeing Europe

Paul Robinson feels Dutch star Edgar Davids can help Spurs reach Europe.

Paul Robinson is looking forward to the new Premiership season with relish and feels Dutch star Edgar Davids can help Tottenham secure a place in Europe.

Spurs performed well last term under new manager Martin Jol and narrowly missed out on a place in the Uefa Cup.

Jol has made some quality additions to his squad during the summer, with midfield tiger Davids the highlight, and Robinson feels the former Barcelona man can help carry the club forward in the new season.

"We have got a young squad with a couple of additions and have quality in every position," the England keeper told Sky Sports News. "We have got a lot of strength in depth and people are expecting big things from us this year.

"We have got to be looking for a European spot, a club this size with the quality we have got.

"He (Davids) will go a long way towards making a difference. We have the base of a good squad and he is a quality addition, with a winning mentality. It could be a prosperous year for us.

"He has only been training with us for a couple of weeks, but he does not like losing. You want to be on his side in the five-a-sides!

"We had such a good season last year and the stability with the couple of additions will hopefully enable us to have an even better season."

Robinson picked up a knee injury at the end of last term, but is ready for the season opener with Portsmouth.

"It is good," he added. "I have been in full training for three weeks and have got 45 minutes under my belt and hopefully proved my fitness for Saturday."

Robinson is keen to impress this season, in order to keep his place in the England squad in what is a World Cup year.

"It is my most important season for club and for country," he added. "I have to get back to the level I was at last season for Spurs and when I get back into the England shirt I just have to keep putting in the performances.

"I want to keep hold of the England shirt for a long time."
