Murphy out to earn his Spurs

Tottenham new boy Danny Murphy is hoping he can help the side qualify for Europe.

Tottenham new boy Danny Murphy is hoping he can help the side qualify for Europe this season.

Murphy beat the transfer deadline to seal his move from Charlton to Tottenham on Tuesday night.

The former Liverpool star is relishing the prospect of playing for Martin Jol's improving young side after 18 months at Charlton.

"It has been a remarkable day and I didn't think it was quite going to happen as it was twenty past eleven when I got signed," Murphy told Sky Sports News.

"I am absolutely made up, thrilled to bits and can't wait to get started and work for Martin (Jol).

"I had a chat with him about what he wants from me, what is expected of me and I can't wait to get started.

"I need to focus on what's ahead of me now. I have got a fantastic opportunity to play for a club moving in the right direction.

"European football looks very realistic, I want to be part of it. Martin brought me in as I have experience and I do have the desire to become a good player for Tottenham.

"We have got some fantastic young players at Tottenham and I have seen the great potential they've got over the course of the season.

"If I can help the young lads and get some results towards the end of the season, European football looks promising for everyone involved.

"I just hope I can play a big part in the next couple of years for Tottenham."
