Jenas welcomes competition

Jermaine Jenas has welcomed the arrival of Danny Murphy at Tottenham.

Jermaine Jenas has welcomed the arrival of Danny Murphy at Tottenham as he believes the added competition in midfield can only be good for the club.

Spurs chief Martin Jol trimmed his midfield ranks in January, with Michael Brown, Pedro Mendes, Wayne Routledge and Sean Davis moving on, but brought in a touch of craft in the guise of Murphy.

Murphy was forced to sit out Sunday's win over Charlton due to the terms of his move from The Valley and Jenas threw down an early marker when netting in the 3-1 win over The Addicks.

The England man is looking forward to the added challenge and hopes it can spur Tottenham on in the weeks ahead.

"It is all good," Jenas told Sky Sports News. "The more quality the better, especially as the season gets on.

"You can see we have picked up a few injuries, Aaron Lennon and Teemu (Tainio), so the more players the better really.

"Especially players of Danny's quality."
