Paul Robinson never thought he would be vying for a place in the Champions League.
Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed he never thought the club would be vying for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
The England number one has been in sensational form for the White Hart Lane club and believes this season has exceeded all pre-season expectations.
"At the beginning of the season we could only dream of being in the Champions League spots," he told Sky Sports News.
"I think we were looking for a Uefa Cup spot but the way the season has gone, now we've been there [in a Champions League position] for a long time it would be disappointing if we lost it."
Spurs' hopes of qualification were boosted on Monday night after a controversial late penalty gave them a 2-1 victory over West Brom.
Baggies goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak was adjudged to have brought down Jermaine Defoe one minute from time, and Robbie Keane's converted spot-kick denied the Midlands outfit a well-deserved point.
But Robinson refused to be drawn into the penalty controversy.
"It was a difficult one," he said.
"Obviously I'm a long way from it and I can't see what's gone on, but we're just delighted to win."
But Spurs' striker Keane felt his side deserved the points.
"You have to believe you're going to get back in the game," Keane said.
"With the players we have we knew we'd get chances. Luckily enough we got a chance and put it away."
