Hull snap up Spurs midfielder

Hull City have finalised the signing of Tottenham midfielder Dean Marney.

Hull City have finalised the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dean Marney.

The Championship club are hoping to make three major signings in the coming days, with Swansea City full back Sam Ricketts a confirmed target.

Marney, though, is the first of those through the KC Stadium door, with the 22-year-old having been unable to make an impact at White Hart Lane.

He failed to appear for the Spurs first team last season and spent two months on loan at Norwich City.

The attack-minded midfielder has previously had loan stints at Gillingham, Queens Park Rangers and Swindon Town, but has now signed a three-year contract at Hull, who have paid an undisclosed fee.

Tigers manager Phil Parkinson is keen to make an immediate impression in his new post and will hope Marney can provide the ammunition for his strikers.

After coming through the youth setup at Spurs, Marney made eight Premiership appearances, with the highlight being a brace of goals in a 5-2 victory over Everton on New Year's Day in 2005.
