Celta push for Mido

Celta Vigo have confirmed an interest in signing Tottenham striker Mido on loan.

Celta Vigo have confirmed an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Mido on loan.

The Egyptian has struggled to establish himself at White Hart Lane this season since completing a permanent move to the club.

He had impressed during a previous 18-month loan spell from Roma, but has not had the same impact since returning to North London.

Mido has scored just once in nine Premiership games and is fourth choice behind Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe.

Spanish side Celta have claimed Spurs are looking to sell the player before the close of the transfer window, but are unlikely to meet the asking price.

Instead, Celta president Carlos Mourino has revealed the club are hoping to strike a deal to bring Mido to Balaidos.

Mourino told AS: "Tottenham want to sell him, but Mido has a price that we cannot afford.

"We are looking for a loan deal. We would like to partner him with (Fernando) Baiano because he is a good player, who has already done well here.

"We are doing our best to get him, but we are keeping our options open."

Mido previously spent a loan stint at Celta towards the end of the 2002/03 season when he was signed from Ajax.
