AMEOBI AND TAYLOR GET ENGLAND CALL

ENGLAND Under-21 boss David Platt has drafted Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi and Blackburn Rovers defender Martin Taylor in to his squad for the European Championship qualifiers with Germany and Albania this week.

Platt decided to bring in the pair after Derby duo Malcolm Christie and Chris Riggott and Ipswich Town's Titus Bramble pulled put of the squad with injuries picked up playing for their clubs on Saturday.

Ameobi was in Platt's first squad for the friendly against Holland earlier this month but missed out after suffering a groin problem.

The 23-man squad met up at their Leeds base and were training at the West Riding County FA headquarters at Woodlesford as they prepare for the Germany game this Friday and the Albania clash four days later.

The England Under-21s currently sit third in their group, five points behind Germany and Greece but with a game in hand on both.
