The New Zealand international was forced off at half time with the problem and he believes he may have suffered a recurrence of a problem he sustained in pre-season.
Nelsen has been ruled out of the Carling Cup clash with Leeds on Tuesday as well as next weekend's Premiership clash with Chelsea and Nelsen fears he may miss even more games with the injury.
"It's the same thing I did in pre-season and I really shouldn't have played on with it," Nelsen told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"We could be looking at four weeks."
