Rovers chase Real stopper

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Mejia is wanted by Blackburn Rovers.

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Mejia has expressed a desire to play in The Premiership, amid rumours he is wanted by Blackburn Rovers.

Mejia has yet to establish himself as a regular at Real and has been linked with a loan exit during January's transfer window.

Speculation has suggested that Blackburn are ready to negotiate a deal to take him to Ewood Park for the second half of the campaign.

The 23-year-old has discussed a Premiership switch with team-mate, and England captain, David Beckham and is open to the idea.

He admits he is not daunted by leaving the Spanish giants and is sorely tempted by the prospect of heading to The Premiership.

"England is a country that I like and the atmosphere that they have in stadiums is magnificent," said Mejia.

"I have spoken with Beckham and he made me excited about playing there if the offer becomes more concrete.

"I am only concerned with playing and to show that I am worthy of playing football outside of Real Madrid.

"I am not scared to play in a foreign league because I am someone who likes challenges."
