Injury blow for Villa ace

ASTON VILLA have lost the services of defensive starlet Rob Edwards for the start of the season.

The Welsh international aggravated an ankle problem during a pre-season friendly and was forced to have more surgery this week.

The operation means that Edwards could be out of action for three months.

"I had an operation on Tuesday just to clear-up the scar tissue and a bit of cartilage," he told the club's official website.

"It's frustrating, but hopefully this will sort it out once and for all.

"I should be off the crutches by the start of next week, then I have to start all over again in terms of getting myself back to match fitness.

"I could be out for about three months, but we've decided not to rush things. I have to make sure this is the end of the problems.

"Obviously, like every other player, I want to be involved at the start of the season. I thought that was going to be the case, but I'll just have to be patient."
