Whittingham signs new deal

Aston Villa youngster Peter Whittingham has celebrated making his mark on the first team by signing a new contract at the Midlands club.

The wide midfielder has broken into David O'Leary's side this season, and has impressed with his industry and crossing ability.

The 19-year-old grabbed his first senior goal in the Carling Cup romp at Wycombe Wanderers, and is tipped to have a bright future in the game.

"I'm just delighted to have it sorted and I can now plan my future with Villa," he told the club's official website.

"It was one of the easiest decisions I have ever had to make.

"It's been a great season for me so far and I want to keep doing well."

Whittingham is now tied to Villa until the summer of 2007.
