Bellamy flies to Mallorca

Craig Bellamy has given Newcastle a boost by boarding the plane for the trip to Palma to play Mallorca in their Uefa Cup fourth round second leg clash on Thursday.

The Wales striker missed Saturday's 3-1 win over Charlton with a hamstring injury but his presence in The Magpies' travelling squad to the island gives him a chance of playing some part in the clash.

Shola Ameobi remains favourite to start, and with a healthy 4-1 advantage from the first leg, manager Sir Bobby Robson may resist the temptation to play Bellamy but it is certainly good news that he is at least in contention.

However, midfielder Kieron Dyer, defender Aaron Hughes and loan striker Michael Bridges have been left behind as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

"We've left Dyer out, we've left Bridges out, we've left Hughes out, but we've brought Bellamy who has a chance," said Robson.

"It's not 100 percent guaranteed, but he's on the plane which means there's a great chance that he could be available."
