Magpies in for Boa Morte

Graeme Souness has confirmed his interest in signing Fulham's Luis Boa Morte.

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has confirmed his interest in signing Fulham star Luis Boa Morte.

Souness has already been busy during the transfer window having captured Jean-Alain Boumsong and Celestine Babayaro, and is keen to further revamp his squad.

He was linked with a £2 million move for Boa Morte last week which prompted an angry response from Fulham boss Chris Coleman who insisted the Portuguese star was not for sale, and branded the proposed price-tag as 'an insult'.

The winger has only recently returned to action following injury, but has quickly rediscovered something like his best form.

He was particularly impressive in The Cottagers' 4-1 win at St James' Park earlier in the term when Souness got a first-hand look at his ability.

The Scot has clearly monitored the former Arsenal star's progress ever since, and now looks set to test Fulham's resolve with an initial offer.

"We have declared an interest in him (Boa Morte)," Souness asserted.

"The chairman (Freddy Shepherd) is still working hard to bring at least one more body in before this window goes, but there is nothing I can tell you about that."
