Souness to decide on Emre

Graeme Souness insists he will decide whether Emre plays for Turkey next month.

Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness insists he will decide whether Emre Belozoglu plays for Turkey next month.

Emre has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since Newcastle's home defeat to Manchester United at the end of August.

The midfielder is back in training but is unlikely to make his return for The Magpies until after the upcoming international break.

Prior to Newcastle's game at Wigan Athletic on October 15, Turkey play World Cup hosts Germany in a friendly before a qualifier against Albania.

Turkey are hoping to have Emre in their squad for the games but Souness is wary about his summer signing being rushed back into action.

Souness does not want the 25-year-old to face Germany but may give his permission for Emre to feature in the World Cup qualifier.

"I've had a talk with him and his adviser," commented Souness.

"If he stays here and trains well without any trouble and Turkey's game against Albania in 10 days' time is still important then I will let him travel.

"In my opinion the friendly against Germany comes too early.

"He is a big player for us, someone we cannot fool around with."
