Roeder: Victory at a price

Glenn Roeder admits victory for his Newcastle side at Blackburn came at a price.

Glenn Roeder admits victory for his Newcastle side at Blackburn came at a price, with The Magpies' treatment room poised for three new inductees.

Goals from Obafemi Martins and Steven Taylor saw Roeder's side emerge victorious 3-1 at Ewood Park, but Emre (ankle), Nolberto Solano (groin) and Antoine Sibierski (hamstring) limped out of the second half action.

Roeder told Sky Sports: "Emre we were concerned that he had broken his ankle, but we believe he has done some damage to his ankle.

"Nobby's had a great time at right-back but felt a sharp pain in his groin.

"We're hoping Sibierski was cramp in his hamstring rather than a pull."

Roeder believes victory means Newcastle have now turned the corner in the league.

"We'd like to think so but there's a long way to go," said Roeder.

"We're entering a busy period and we've picked up three more injuries today."

Opposite number Mark Hughes bemoaned crucial decisions going against his team, but Roeder was not sure what all the fuss was about.

"Perhaps Mark has seen a video I've not seen. I did not think they (Martins and Taylor) were offside."

On Henchoz's dismissal, Roeder was unsympathetic: "The rules are the rules - if you're the last defender, there's no choice for Dermot Gallagher to make."
