Ameobi thrilled to return

Shola Ameobi was thrilled to make his Newcastle United comeback against Reading on Monday.

Ameobi had not featured for The Magpies since last November after undergoing surgery on a career-threatening hip injury.

The 25-year-old was naturally delighted to be back on the pitch, but was saddened by Newcastle slipping to another away defeat.

Ameobi is now hoping to help Newcastle claim back-to-back wins from their remaining games against Blackburn and Watford.

"I've managed to play half an hour and it's a mix of emotions," he told The Evening Chronicle.

"To be honest, I'm delighted that I've even managed to get in one appearance in this season. But it's another away loss for us and they've come along far too often this season.

"We've lost many games we should have got something out of, and that's something we're going to have to sort out.

"But for me it's fantastic to be back. It's so difficult when you're on the sidelines. You want to help the team, but you're not physically able to.

"Hopefully, I can now do my bit, even though there's only two games left, and help us get a couple of victories."
