Weaver praises Pearce

Nicky Weaver has praised Stuart Pearce for nursing him through a recent run of injuries.

Manchester City shot-stopper Nicky Weaver has praised boss Stuart Pearce for nursing him through the recent run of injuries that has stunted his career at the Premiership outfit.

The 26-year-old has suffered heavily from a succession of blows, and only recently saw his opportunity to impress in the reserves curtailed by a back problem.

Weaver had already suffered a broken wrist in pre-season although he is taking advantage of the international break to regain his fitness and shrug off his lingering injury doubts.

The keeper has Geert de Vlieger to usurp as understudy to David James, and Weaver praised Pearce for helping him through a difficult period and leading the team to sixth in the league.

"The manager has said to me every time I've had a setback just to keep my chin up and keep going," Weaver told the club's official website.

"To be fair, when I've been fit he's let me play for the reserves, which I'm obviously grateful for.

"But his approach is good and the results have shown that.

"It's a results business and he's getting the right results at the minute."

Weaver was once a highly promising youngster before sustaining a serious knee injury but he is now hoping that he can remain fit for the remainder of the season in a bid to get his career back on track.

"It's been frustrating but there's nothing I can do about it," Weaver continued.

"It's out of my control, but I'm fighting fit now and hopefully can just stay fit for the rest of the season."
