Boro have struggled to kick-start to their Premiership campaign with only two wins and six defeats in The Premiership, four of those at The Riverside.
The Teesside outfit are currently in the bottom three but in an interview for Boro TV Extra, Lamb responded to Boro fans' views and said the former England number two was the right man for the job.
"Steve McClaren is the best man for the job. There is no question about that," said Lamb.
"He is an excellent coach. He is a good manager and he is hungry for success."
One disgruntled fan claimed McClaren's recent record was just not good enough and that he was more cut out to be a coach than a manger.
"If you get the coaching right, then the managing follows automatically," retorted Lamb.
"When Bryan Robson left the club it was because we felt we needed someone with a better coaching background. That's why we brought in Steve McClaren.
"If you ask the players, they are delighted with the coaching they receive here.
"We're all disappointed with some of the early results, but once the players cross that white line then it's not Steve McClaren who wins or loses the matches.
"But we are in football for the good times and the bad times. I think we have a good squad of players and a good squad of coaches."
Lamb also stressed that despite the club's poor start, he believes the side are not far from turning the corner.
"Of course there is some concern. Steve McClaren is concerned and the players are concerned. But everybody is working to put it right and the players we have got are capable of scoring goals in The Premiership," he added.
In other news, McClaren will be given a much needed boost with the news that key players Ugo Ehiogu, Stuart Parnaby and David Murphy resumed light training this week.
The troika of players began light jogging and although they are some way off a return to the first team, it is a piece of good news for the under-fire boss.
"I was absolutely delighted to see them out there on the training pitch jogging," said McClaren.
"We had something like the third best defensive record in The Premiership and Ugo and Stuart were an integral part of that.
"We've not had Ugo all this season and lost Stuart early on, so it's had an effect, we've been without them for the majority of the season."
