Parma move for Macc

Parma are the latest club ready to move for Middlesbrough's Massimo Maccarone.

Parma are the latest Serie A club to be tipped to make a move for Middlesbrough forward Massimo Maccarone.

The Italian striker seems destined to leave The Riverside Stadium before the close of the transfer window after failing to set The Premiership alight.

Maccarone joined Boro from Empoli in an £8 million deal two years ago but has struggled to repay the club with goals.

He was on the substitutes' bench for Sunday's defeat at Arsenal but he is likely to slip further down the pecking order once summer signing Mark Viduka is available.

With Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also arriving on Teesside over the summer, Steve McClaren is well stocked in the attacking department and appears prepared to allow Maccarone to leave.

A season-long loan switch to Fiorentina recently collapsed while Lazio were also linked with an offer for the Italy international.

Parma are now in the hunt for the 24-year-old, according to reports in Italy, and Maccarone is ready to return to Serie A.

The Gialloblu want Maccarone to partner rising star Alberto Gilardino up front and are expected to make contact with Boro regarding a loan deal.
