City to fail with loan bid

Bradford's immediate hopes of landing Adam Johnson appear to have been dashed.

Bradford's immediate hopes of landing Adam Johnson appear to have been dashed.

Manager Gareth Southgate refused to rule out the prospect of letting some of his younger stars leave on a temporary basis.

But he stated that he would first need to assess any potential first teamers - including Johnson.

"Nobody from Bradford has spoken to me about it," Southgate told the club's official website.

"A lot of our young players people will want to take on loan because they are good players.

"I don't want to make any decision on that because everybody is a potential first-team player.

"If we decide to loan any players out it will be when it suits us and to a club that we decide suits them.

"These young players can be the heartbeat of this club for years to come."
