Wigan boss Paul Jewell has poured cold water on reports that he could make a January raid for Nathan Ellington.The pacey front man only left Wigan in the summer to join West Brom in a £3 million deal but already, there has been talk in some quarters of a return to The JJB Stadium.
Whilst Ellington has yet to be handed any kind of extended run in Bryan Robson's first team, it seems unlikely that so early in his Baggies career would he seek pastures new.
Jewell insists that any such talk is mere speculation and that on the contrary, he has no intention of bringing Ellington back to Wigan.
''I bought him for £750,000 and sold him for £3 million,'' Jewell told Sky Sports News. ''We've done well out of that.
''Never say never but they also say never go back.
''I've seen a little bit of speculation in the newspapers but there's nothing in it.''
A key feature of Wigan's rise to second spot in the top flight has been the buccaneering performances of Pascal Chimbonda, who recently put pen-to-paper on a new contract despite having only arrived in the summer.
Jewell feels Chimbonda's performances have exceeded all expectations but believes talk of a call-up to the France squad is perhaps premature.
''I was alerted to Pascal's quality and went out to watch him,'' he continued.
''Having said that I didn't realise he was going to be so good.
''He has turned out to be an absolute diamond so far. As far as getting in the French squad, I don't know if the England manager knows where we are, so I can't see the France coach knowing where to find us.''
