Wigan have opened talks with Lee McCulloch over a new deal at the JJB Stadium.

Wigan have opened talks with Lee McCulloch over a new deal at The JJB Stadium.

The Latics are keen to tie down the Scottish international to a new long-term deal to ward off potential suitors.

McCulloch has established himself as a key member of the Wigan side since arriving from Motherwell in 2001.

The 28-year-old impressed during Wigan's first season in The Premiership last term and Paul Jewell is a big fan of the versatile performer.

McCulloch's representative Mick McGuire confirmed negotiations were underway over a contract extension.

"We are in the middle of discussions right now about a new deal for Lee," McGuire told skysports.com.

"We are hopeful that things can be concluded soon."
