Jewell confirms Webster intent

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has conceded he is interested in Hearts defender Andy Webster.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has conceded he is interested in bringing Hearts defender Andy Webster to The Premiership.

The 24-year-old stopper is trying to take advantage of a new Fifa ruling to make a move to another country, despite the fact Hearts were loath to sanction his departure.

Webster has been placed on the transfer list by the Tynecastle outfit after he failed to report for pre-season training but prior to his seeming attempt to engineer a move, Hearts had been eager to offer him a new contract.

It has been reported that Webster has a clause in his deal which sets his price at £250,000 but while Jewell is ready to firm up initial interest, the Wigan tactician admits he is unsure of the implications of such a case.

''Something might happen with us and Andy Webster but it is complicated,'' Jewell told the Daily Star.

''We need to make sure it is all legal, but Andy's will be a test case that has never been done before, so we don't really know what will happen.''
