Striker blow for Latics

Oldham striker Luke Beckett has suffered a potentially serious knee injury.

Oldham's pre-season plans have been handed a real blow with the news that Luke Beckett has suffered a potentially serious knee injury.

The loan signing from Sheffield United went down during Oldham's game against Carlisle in the Isle of Man on Sunday.

Oldham have confirmed that Beckett has suffered a rotatory type stress to his right knee after getting his right foot stuck in the pitch.

It is thought that there is a grade two sprain to the player's medial collateral ligament - which runs from the inside of the knee - connecting the femur to the tibia.

Beckett will undergo an MRI scan later in the week, when Oldham will discover the full extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, Latics boss Ronnie Moore has told West Brom goalkeeper Joe Murphy that he has not done enough to earn a permanent move to Boundary Park.

The League One outfit are now to actively pursue the loan signing of an as yet unnamed Premiership goalkeeper.
