Rovers land young Blade

Tranmere Rovers have signed Sheffield United defender Simon Francis on loan.

Tranmere Rovers have signed Sheffield United defender Simon Francis on a month's loan.

The 20-year-old joins the struggling League One club after spending time on loan with League Two side Grimsby Town this season.

The former Bradford City player is expected to make his Tranmere debut on Saturday when they visit Scunthorpe United.

"Simon comes from a good club and has been playing first-team football this season," Rovers boss Brian Little told the club's official website.

"He is very mobile, quick, strong and is a good passer of the ball."

Francis' Blades team-mate Jonathan Forte has also headed out of Bramall Lane on a temporary basis. He has returned to League One side Doncaster Rovers for a fresh loan spell at Belle Vue.
