Championship Pro-Life

The latest instalment from Sheffield United's Nick Montgomery.

It has been a frustrating few weeks for me having not been in the team of late.

After our great start to the season it was a bit of a shock for me to be rested, but I continued working hard as I always do and I was delighted to be recalled for the game with Reading.

It was billed as the biggest game of the season and it was, given that it was between the top two and I don't think it failed to deliver - although a 1-1 draw was not what we hoped for or deserved.

I know people will say that Reading missed a late penalty and that was thanks to a fabulous save from Paddy Kenny - but we had the better chances, including myself, and only some great stops from their keeper prevented us from winning.

Anyway I really didn't think it was a penalty for them, but our games with Reading always seem to be controversial and we are never without something to talk about afterwards.

The big games don't stop coming at this time of year and, well, nothing comes bigger for us than Sheffield Wednesday.

We obviously managed victory last time, but it was difficult and this time is unlikely to be any different as derbies in this city are so intense.

We have a number of injuries going into the game and our squad is under some strain, but the gaffer has put together a great bunch of lads this year and it is for this time of year that it comes into its own.

Finally this week I have had chance to go through some of the many questions mailed in.

Richard Vardey - Dear Nick, I'm a season ticket holder at Sheffield United and go to the majority of away games. I just wondered if (when) Sheffield United go up would you be happy to play the role of 'man-marker', which is a major possibility; or would you prefer a more free role, with a more of an attacking licence.

Well Richard I would undoubtedly prefer a more free role with licence to go forward, but if asked to do a job for the team then I would obviously be only too happy to do that.

Joe Williams - Nick, Do you think the club has the potential to push on after we have won promotion, and become a top club in England? Also, what has been your best moment as a Sheffield United player so far?

I would firstly say Joe that we are not promoted yet but obviously that is our main aim. But to your first point I really do think the potential at this club is massive. The stadium is in place, the fans are here and the board is fantastic so there is no reason to assume that we could not become a really big club. And my best memory as a United player is a hard one but I would probably say the FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal - which was a great day.

Thanks to everyone who has sent in a question and I will endeavour to answer them all over the coming weeks.
